Moshe the Beadle was a poor homeless man who lived in Sighet. Moshe was tall
and had shoulder length greasy blonde hair. He wore torn dirty clohes and had no shoes. Moshe the Beadle was the only name
he ever went by. Surely he had once had a real last name, but no one knew what it was. There was a lot about Moshe the Beadle
that was a mystery to most people, but he did share his story with Elie during one of their Judiasm study sessions.
Moshe had lived in England with his parents and younger sister. His family
practied Christianity and were very wealthy people. From the time he was about 10 years old he knew that he did not believe
in Christianity and began to secretly study Judiasm. Finally he worked up the courage to tell his family how he felt, which
did not go the way he intended. They gave him a choice. He could practice Christianity or he could more out of his family's
house.
As soon as he was old enough he moved out. He could not take anything with
him except the clothes on his back. Some how he ended up in Sighet, Tranyslvania. He lived in the synagogue where he spent
more of his time studying Judiasm. Although he didn't have a house or a family of his own, he prefered this life to practicing
a religion he didn't believe in. The people of Sighet were not particularly
fond of homeless people but everyone seemed to like Moshe, especially Elie. Moshe helped Elie in his studies of the Cabbala.
